How to Support the Walk to End Alzheimer’s: Tips and Ways to Get Involved

September 9, 2025

Alzheimer’s Disease impacts more than 7 million Americans each year, with a new diagnosis occurring every 66 seconds, making it the sixth-leading cause of death in the U.S. These numbers are more than just statistics – they represent neighbors, loved ones, and friends at home and in every senior living community. The Assisted Living Association’s annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s offers a chance for our residents and families to come together, champion the cause, and help create a future without this terrible affliction.

Every step toward a cure counts – and when it comes to this nationwide event, those steps add up to hope, awareness, and real progress. Held annually each Fall in over 600 communities across the country, the Walk is more than just a gentle stroll; it’s a movement to fight Alzheimer’s and all other forms of dementia.

Easy Ways to Get Involved

Getting involved is simpler than you might think:

  • Join a local walk: Many communities organize their own teams. Residents, families, and staff can sign up together, making it a social and inspiring outing. To find a walk near you, visit the Walk to End Alzheimer’s website.
  • Fundraise with fun: Host a bake sale, organize a trivia night or set up a lemonade stand. Creativity goes a long way, and every dollar raised supports vital research and family resources. Not ready to organize your own fundraiser, but still want to contribute? Residents and families can give directly to LCB Senior Living’s fundraising teams, helping our communities reach their ambitious goals in the fight to end this disease. Last year LCB’s front line associates raised more than $120,000! This year they’re aiming to eclipse $150,000.Spread the word: Share your story online or on social media. The more voices, the stronger the message for change.
  • Volunteer: If walking isn’t an option, volunteer to help with event set-up, registration, or even cheering on walkers. Every role matters.

Don’t forget the little things that can have a big impact. Thank donors personally, ask local businesses to match contributions, and wear purple – the color of Alzheimer’s support – to raise awareness. Even encouraging others to join can double the difference you make.

Why It Matters

Supporting the Walk is about more than one afternoon. It’s a year-round commitment to advancing care, supporting families, and driving new medical breakthroughs. And it creates camaraderie – uniting people who know firsthand how important it is to keep hope alive in the face of uncertainty.

Whether you walk, volunteer, or simply encourage others, every contribution gets us closer to a world where no family has to face dementia alone. So, lace up those sneakers and help turn every step into progress!
