A review by our Reflections and Engagement Director, Josh Freitas.

“Alice Howland (Julianne Moore), a successful Columbia University linguistics professor happily married with three grown children, struggles to maintain her mind after being diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease. This powerful and moving movie captures the events which take place after being diagnosed.  From the impact it has on one’s family to the struggles one may face when accomplish day-to-day tasks; Julianne Moore portrays what so many American are and will be facing in the near future.

Currently, over 5.5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, which constitutes 70 percent of the dementia population. This number is expected to triple within the next few decades with no cure insight.  For those who would like to better understand the struggles and challenges someone with Alzheimer’s disease will experience, Still Alice is the perfect opportunity.

Hands-down, a must see movie.” – Joshua Freitas, CAEd, CADDCT, CDP
