I love coming into this facility and working collaboratively with everyone. Heather at the front desk is so welcoming. Stacey, the Executive Director is always looking out for the residents and makes sure the residents a d staff are truly happy. Agnes, Kevin and Juliet are great nurses and provide great care and concern to the residents. I love working with such a great group of people.
You crave a detailed review...here it is...with the 'why' and the 'what' behind my rating.
We recently found ourselves with a week to move a partially disabled 85-year old 'reluctant to leave her home mother'. We had previously looked at all the usual places in the Avon/Simsbury area. Brookside had stood out for many reasons that the typical 'tour' highlights: Small & Personal (not too large), feeling like a home rather than a hospital, amazing food, excellent community, the range of services and amenities/activites etc. If you are looking you make a list, line up all the places and they all sort of blend together...right?...well...read on...
What matters is what happens AFTER you say 'YES'. So many times we read reviews that talk about all the selling points...but Brookside...the Selling Points are WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU SAY YES!
First off, the Sales Team (Susan & Jenny) were literally available at any hour to answer all of our questions. They were able to furnish a 1BR unit with literally hours to do it. They arranged a nurse to assess our mother who was over an hour away in a rehab hospital pending release. They never gave us one bit of trouble/concern about mom coming directly from a rehab hospital....RATHER...they spoke in terms of how they could deal with her needs AND how they could reassess her level of care as she improved. They allowed us to take financial possession of the unit (meaning pay occupancy not services) for a day so that we could get the unit all set up for Mom's move...we wanted her to enter a 'ready to go' home rather than an empty place. They even actively visited the apartment while we decorated and helped us with our needs/questions. OH, they immediately sent in their amazing onsite service person to address things like moving shelves down, moving pictures and minor little things that needed repair.
Our move-in day with Mom was wildly successful. The entire team greeted us. We were blown away with how each staff member came to the apartment with energy and enthusiasm to meet Mom. We dined and I have to say I could not get over the restaurant quality food! Shrimp Scampi for lunch...or Filet...like you can literally have that 2x a day if you like. The server JUSTIN was more like the type of person you would hope for at a high end resort or club....he was warm and engaging. Over time he has learned Mom's likes, including whipped cream, and makes sure she gets it on all her desserts....he even arranges to have her steak cut into slices to make it easier for her.
The attendants, simply warm & loving. They are encouraging and loving. They come within minutes of being paged...always happy and patient. When they assist Mom to meals they always introduce her to other residents. She never eats alone unless she wants to....they literally bring her over to people they know she will click with AND the RESIDENTS ARE SO WELCOMING!..more on this in a minute. The Nursing Staff reinforces that you are in good hands. The lead, Janet, is ALL OVER IT....she had Mom's medications moved from her hometown within a day. She had already reassessed Mom and recognized that her abilities were above what her initial assessment had been a week earlier (meaning lower cost to Mom).
You can contract to use their On-Call Nurse Practitioner and I must say THAT was EQUALLY impressive. Amy visited on the first weekday. She spent SO much time with Mom knowing her. She went through the medications and together we discussed and adjusted. She will proactively check in on Mom every maybe 8 weeks and they have 24/7 on call.
Stacey, the Executive Director has literally texted me with updates on mom....she even went to her room to encourage her to go to a monthly music festival that Mom was reluctant to attend..Stacey literally TOOK MOM.
Even Heather at the front desk is amazing....one day Mom wandered up and asked if they could play Sinatra....guess what....Heather was so happy to make that happen.
Residents! WELCOMING! Intelligent! Engaged! Kind! No cliques. SUPER interesting!
We have had an exceptional experience at The Residence at Brookside. Susan and Jenny went above and beyond to help our mother move from her home of 58 years and an acute rehabilitation hospital to the Residence at Brookside. They worked miracles and magic and provided outstanding support to get my mother moved into her new, gorgeous apartment in this very warm and welcoming community within an extremely short timeframe. Susan and Jenny were essential in making this transition for our mother a huge success. They worked through every detail and responded promptly to every question and request we had. They were truly professional and kind. Our entire family is eternally grateful for their help. My mother LOVES her new home and has adjusted beautifully thanks to Susan and Jenny and all the wonderful staff at The Residence at Brookside. I’d give ten stars if I could!
The apartments are bright and beautiful, Jenny really takes her time getting to know what is needed, and finding the best "fit" for the family, compassionate, intuitive, and a natural relationship builder. Making a decision like this requires a lot of trust, so grateful that we can count on her to help us. I looked at all the other places in Avon and this was the place that felt like home, and that people are not just a number, but a member of the family.
The Residence at Brookside is a beautiful community with a dedicated team of professionals who care for the residents. Everyone goes out of their way to make the sure residents residents are happy and engaged. The community provides wonderful dining options and spacious apartments.
My 103 year old Great Aunt moved in 23 May from living on her own until this point. Everyone working at Brookside care greatly for the residents and are very welcoming to the resident’s family members. I rest easy knowing she’s in such great hands.
I love the staff, my Aunt is so happy there and we all are pleased with the support and communication. I would highly recommend.
LCB is such an amazing company. I recently left a competitor, because they did not offer the culture, care and level of professionalism that LCD delivers! I am so happy to be part of the team at Brookside senior living community, and I feel so welcomed by all of our kind, warm residents!
My father stayed here in a lovely one-bedroom Assisted Living apartment for a couple months after he had a fall and before moving into Memory Care. We were very happy with the experience there. The staff were all very helpful and supportive, taking the time to understand and appreciate my dad and help us navigate this journey. The food is really good, with a great menu, and they had some nice activities - music concerts and trivia programs - that he enjoyed while he was there. And the place itself is really well-designed and beautiful, with touches that make it feel like home. The apartment was fabulous, with a view of the Heublein Tower. We were sad when we had to leave for the next step in this journey, but I'll always be grateful to Brookside for taking my dad in at the time when we needed it and for taking good care of him. Thank you, Brookside!!

The Residence at Brookside Avon is a beautiful and welcoming senior living community. The memory care program is engaging and vibrant. The residents in assisted living are focused on the growth of a healthy community to age in place in.
I think the building is very nice and very clean. I think the meals are great. The activities are a lot of fun and the care service is also a number five but I do wish that the staff would be a little more friendly because that would make a big difference in a community of this size.
I really like living here at Brookside. I think the people that work here are very very friendly. I have a lot of fun at my meal times with my friends and I appreciate everything everybody does. that works here. I think the community is beautiful, but it definitely needs new carpet.
I really enjoy living at Brookside. I am very very happy here. I was born in Yugoslavia and I have made a lot of friends here. I love the food and the dining experience every day I will give Brookside number fives on everything and I love my two bedroom apartment.
I wish there was a place that we could put our walkers when we are in the dining area. It seems like they’re all over the place and it would be nice to have a designated area for them. I am very happy with the dining service and the food.
Overall I enjoy living at Brookside because it’s my money my kids are spending it I don’t know how much they’re spending so I can’t help you with the finance part ha ha. I would like to see more guest speakers, and more outings because I really enjoy that part.
I am very happy with the care here at Brookside. I do feel like I wish the meals were better flavorful. I enjoy the staff, and I think the community is very beautiful, especially decorated for the holidays. I also wish there was more activities and things to do.
I like living at Brookside I think it is clean. I think that the meals are OK there should be more activities and I also think the staff is friendly enough and it is nice to see all of the Christmas decorations and the staff participating.
I agree with my husband on the friendliness of the staff. I also think that the dining room is nice and the food is very good. The cleanliness of the building is top-notch. I do think there could be more activities in the afternoon.
I would like to see a beginners knitting club maybe crocheting I would like to see them brighten up the dining room, and I don’t think the carpets are that nice I would like to see the carpets newer and some of the other things in the community updated I think that would make a big difference.
I am overall happy living here at Brookside I am, however not that happy about the recent increase in price for my apartment. I think the staff is friendly and the food is good. I don’t really participate in the activities, but I do not think the value for cost is equal.
The Residence at Brookside has been a wonderful place for my parents to live as they have navigated/navigate through to the end of their lives.
Brookside has always worked with our family to provide the best living arrangement possible for my parents. When my parents had to enter a senior living/care situation in 2017, they were able to enter at 2 different service levels, my father at Assisted and my mother at Independent, which helped financially. When it became necessary for my parents to move to the memory care unit, Brookside allowed them to move together, as a couple, into the same room. This was important to the emotional health for both my parents. While they both were suffering from dementia, my father was not as serious as my mother, and he still felt the need to care for her - most of all they still knew they were the other's spouse. They were caring for each other until the day my father passed away.
The caregivers at the memory unit have always been caring and gentle as my mother's dementia has continued to erode her capabilities. She always looks nice, has her nails and hair done to make herself feel special. She enjoys the music programs they host and the games they play.
The bottom line is that I feel very comfortable with my mother's care. As a person sinks into the lostness of dementia, while they might not recognize people, they know how people make them feel. I know my mother feels loved there.
We moved to Brookside so my wife could receive the support she needs but we could still be together. I am very happy that the team helped us with the transition. Moving from home is not easy but now I know my wife is getting the care she needs and we can spend enjoyable time together. I will recommend the community to my friends.
Living at Brookside has been convenient and I can get out to do my shopping and run errand. I enjoy the other residents and I have made new friends. I also enjoy the associate.
The Bistro is my favorite, the smell of the Chef cooking is amazing. The chef’s are top notch! My wife is also here and I get to see her without driving.
The people are more then friendly. We joke around and have created bonds. The Executive Director is a great guy. [name removed] is a nice guy and is helpful results come from from communication and working together
I am a new resident at the Residence at Brookside I am enjoying my comfortable apartment. The associates are friendly and responsive. I would recommend the community. I am enjoying attending the exercise classes.
Our family searched for many months, looking for a community that was safe, beautiful and active for our parents. We could not be happier with our choice. The Residence at Brookside has exceeded our expectations in every way. The staff is extremely helpful, kind and compassionate. They have a fabulous menu and lots of activities and events to keep the guests entertained & social. We couldn’t be happier!
The moment my brother and I stepped into Reflections Memory Care we knew that this was the right place for mom. The director, Krisztina is an amazing asset to the community. She is extremely committed to her guests. She is kind, caring, professional, and compassionate. Her team/caregivers are well trained, attentive, patient and helpful. Words can not express how grateful we are for all of these amazing people who have made my moms life so much brighter during these difficult times. It’s truly a special place and would highly recommend it.
This community is Fantastic! Staff is very accommodating and courteous towards family and visitors. Friendly atmosphere and the food always smells delicious! Its apparent cleanliness is a top priority. The community looks great inside and out.
I have been providing music therapy services for the memorycare residents of Brookside for over six years. I have always been impressed with the care and compassion of the staff and the level of training they have in dementia care. LCB’s innovative approach is a stand out in the industry as is evidenced by their unique, resident-centered programming and ability to meet a variety of needs and interests. Moreover the Memorycare residents are not sequestered like at other communities but fully participate in programming with non-memorycare residents as well.
The food at Brookside is absolutely delicious and the staff goes above and beyond.
Couldn't be happier with my mom's first year at Brookside... the staff working in the memory care unit are fantastic and keep her busy with activities throughout the day. I would highly recommend Brookside for memory care, and I'm guessing that their assisted living facility is equally as great.
My mother has been living at Brookside of Avon in Reflections for nearly 3 years. Her time there has been so positive and so fulfilling for her. The managers and staff at Brookside have come to love my mother and the feeling is mutual. As her illness progresses, they meet her where she is each and every day providing her with support, compassion, companionship and care that is unmatched. My family and I could not be happier with her care and the life she started at Brookside of Avon almost 3 years ago.
