My name is Steve King, and I am a performer, a pianist. My experience at traditions has been positive in every way. I judge each of the many venues I perform at after speaking with their residents. Traditions provides a healthy, balanced, clean, safe environment for its residents. I recommend it highly.

I am an entertainer, and I specialize in the senior community. I have 70 different places where I perform, and I've been going to Traditions of Dedham for years. While I can't vouch for resident apartments, I can tell you that the building is lovely. The activities department is fantastic and obviously cares deeply for the residents. I don't know what kind of metric other people use, but I think employee retention is a huge thing. I have been working with the same employees of the activity department for the entire time I've sung there. Over 7 years. They know every resident and clearly have personal relationships with them. To me, that speaks volumes.

As a hospice nurse I am in and out of many buildings, Traditions is truly one of a kind. I can’t say enough positive things. The nursing staff are caring and competent. The direct care staff to above and beyond. I see all the small things that are the actual big things. All the residents are so loved and I truly admire the way the staff learns each individual and go out of their way to do special things for them. The residents always look happy and there’s always something fun for them to do. The staff really promote respect and dignity. Truly there’s no better place to retire.

My good friend has been living at Traditions of Dedham for the past 4 months and she is enjoying it immensely. The first meeting we had was with Melanie Fernandes, who guided us through the entire process with great knowledge and kindness. Always available for questions and support, she went what I consider above and beyond to make the transition go smoothly. My friend is now enjoying wonderful meals, along with the many activities offered and making new friends. Traditions has given our friend a new lease on life. Thank you , Melanie and Traditions!

From the first day that we visited Traditions of Dedham my friends and I felt very comfortable. There was a very welcoming feeling to the place. [name removed] met with the friends and explained every detail of the services that Traditions would provide. She never hesitated to answer our many questions and even anticipated some of the things we should know. We were given a complete tour of the facilities and met many members of the staff who would be helping our friend. Since moving into Traditions our friend has adjusted beautifully to her new apartment. She is enjoying meals in the dining room and has met new friends there. One of the biggest benefits is the opportunity for her to socialize with other residents and participate in the many activities offered. Traditions and its staff have offered her a new outlook on her everyday living. Once again, kudos to the entire staff but especially [name removed] who has gone out of her way to make sure our friend is adjusting well.

Pros) it's not a lock down place. It's like she has her apt and she can come and go and people can visit. Food is great. Always company available. Hair salon on site. Encouraging socialization. Cons) I was under the impression that some basic med needs would be handled but I guess not. She has to take eye drops for an upcoming surgery and her friends told me the facility is unable to assist. I assumed she would at least be able to get a quick reminder for the few days she has to do the drops every 4 hours. I can somewhat understand not being able to administer the drops for her but reminders after surgery shouldn't be a problem. She also has the sleep apnea machine. I can again kind of understand you not being able to put it on. But I don't understand why she can't have a little more help with the reminder to wear it. Like a quick knock on her door after her evening meds. Maybe when she gets her meds write a note and place it on her bed so she sees it. Just something. Her neurologist said it's vital to keeping her memory issues from progressing so I wish there was something more that could be done. I know you can't force her and babysit her. I understand everyone is busy. But I feel like something could be done She is there for her memory and those 2 things are pretty important for her medical care so I was confused and disappointed when her friends explained she was unable to receive assistance for those 2 things. Another pro is it looks like a home, looks welcoming, from the outside and inside. Overall she seems very happy and the place seems great. I guess my expectations of medication management assistance were off. So I would have wanted to know in detail exactly what the medication management assistance covers and will not cover

As a nurse I know how hard it is to age in the community. I see patients and families struggle to keep their loved ones safe, independent and happy as they navigate the process of getting older. Traditions is truly a god send! Initially my grandmother was upset to leave her apartment, but that didn’t last long. She loves all the activities and sense of community at traditions. She is so happy there, I feel like i have to drag her out of the place to spend time with me! The staff are so friendly and nice, the apartment is adorable and the facility is clean and well-kept. We are all very happy Traditions exists.

My mother was living independently in her own apartment, but she wasn’t thriving. We urged her to move to Traditions, but she gave us a lot of pushback. Then, she took a fall in her apartment, and we made the decision to move her while she was still in the hospital. When she first got there, she was angry, but after a few months, she thanked us. Now, every time we call her she is so happy. We don’t have to worry that she isn’t taking her medicine; we don’t have to worry that she’s lonely; we don’t have to worry about her watching TV all day. She’s made many new friends and she participates in all the activities. It’s really been a relief for our family to see her so happy and we would recommend Traditions to anyone.

I have been volunteering at Traditions for several months now and wish my own mother could have been at this wonderful facility. The premises are always clean, the staff are all so friendly and there are so many activities and outings. You can tell the staff really cares about the residents and the residents themselves have told me how happy they are.

My mom is currently a resident of Traditions - has been for about a year now, and she is absolutely thriving there. I can’t say enough positive about this place. She has a lovely, private room. The nursing staff is attentive, thorough and friendly. The food is delicious and served in a large dining room with lots of windows. There is a pub where “happy hour” is served a couple days/week that she loves going to. The front desk is well staffed, friendly and responsive. The maintenance staff are helpful and timely. The activities director and his staff are incredible. Every day a sheet of paper is delivered to my mom with that day’s activities. She goes to exercise class every morning. On a recent visit I heard a live guitarist/piano player perform Irish and other music in keeping with the upcoming St. Paddy’s Day. Live music is a common occurrence at Traditions. They also have trivia, art classes, sing-a-longs, and bus trips — to see a movie, attend a show, visit a museum, or to just go to the grocery store. All of these activities keep my mom interested & engaged. She is having more fun than we could have imagined at this time in her life. Thanks to the staff & management of Traditions for creating such a well managed, healthy & fun environment where we can feel confident that our mom is safe and well cared for - much appreciated!

My mom sat by herself in her apartment for years. We dragged her kicking and screaming to Traditions. Now she has lots of friends, participates in so many fun activities. It’s literally like living on a cruise ship. There is a dining room always open and the food is really good. The staff is so friendly and helpful. There is a great atmosphere. My mom is so much happier now.

My best friend has only been living at Traditions of Dedham Assisted Living for a few months now but she has settled in and seems quite happy. Traditions is beautiful, bright, and a welcoming community. You feel as if you are at home as soon as you enter. She is in a safe, clean and caring environment with many opportunities for socializing. She loves the food and tells us everyone is so nice to her. She is making new friends. From the beginning of our search for a new home for our friend Melanie Fernandes has been right there guiding us along and helping us to understand the process and continues to help us to help our friend. All staff has been extremely helpful. A shoutout to John!!

We chose this place because of the friendliness, reasonable cost, and it's nearby to where I live. My mother is starting out in independent living and she can stay in the same apartment if she needs assisted-living help in the future. Also, they invited her to have lunch with a current resident while we were looking so she could get a feel for it. They offer a wide variety of activities. They do offer housekeeping once a week and can do laundry for an extra fee. Everything seems very clean. Smaller facility where the staff seem to know all the residents. I would definitely recommend them.

We chose Traditions of Dedham for a 3 week respite stay for my mom. It was fabulous; although about half of the time she was there, they unfortunately had a Covid outbreak. They seemed to handle it all efficiently. They had all the residents tested, and quarantined those we needed to be isolated. It was an unfortunates experience, but thankfully my mom didn't get Covid. It changed the activities and the dining experience - it wasn't what it could have been during that time. Once things cleared up, she was then able to experience the activities and socialization aspect of being there. Overall they handled it very well and I would recommend Traditions to others for either respite or long term . I think they were very good.

Our mother has lived at Traditions for the past 4 years. Initially in assisted living and now Memory care. The staff is amazing. They are all so kind and caring. They know our mother well and have also been a support to us in navigating her care. Attention to detail is where they excell. Mom always looks so nice. Her outfits are clean and even coordinated. They let us know if anything comes up or Mom needs anything at all. We truly can’t say enough good things about Traditions of Dedham.

I must say, that during the transition for my mother from home to Traditions of Dedham, the experience relieved much of the anxiety and concern about the significant life style change, because Transitions made the move a seamless one. Their concern, compassion and attention to detail was outstanding. It has been two months now and my mom could not be happier with her situation. Thank you Traditions of Dedham.

My friend is quite contrary, she tends to irritate the aids which makes it difficult for her because she is very dependent on the assistance from them. She has not quite gotten the feel for it all since she has private aids and expects them all to act that way. Some are wonderful but I think some could be more sympathetic. The activities are wonderful, I have seen many of them going on. I have been to several of the religious services, painting classes, concerts, etc. The room sizes at Traditions are the largest out of all of the other facilities that we toured. The staff are very good with their response time and come when she calls them. Overall I am very happy with the facility, but my friend is hit or miss depending on the day.

Traditions of Dedham has a smaller more homey atmosphere and it has an older transitional look with a modern attitude. The room sizes are fabulous and very spacious. Overall the staff and the care she is getting and the diligence and response time has been awesome. I have nothing but good things to say about our experience and would definitely recommend them to others.

The general areas are cleaner than my loved one's room, but it's not that clean overall. I'm not very happy with the care that she's getting. I don't know if it's the times due to Covid. Also, it has been an adjustment for my mother, and she complains a lot. She says she can't understand them. They all speak Haitian, and then she herself speaks broken English. She can't hear well, and she feels like they yell at her a lot. They've all been very nice to me. She loves the kitchen staff and says they're wonderful to her. The recreational staff is absolutely wonderful, [name removed] in particular. He has been exceptionally nice to her. Some of the aides she really loves. Some respect her wishes not to come in too early, and others just do as they please. I think the care staff are very overworked, and some try to accommodate her, while others try to accommodate themselves. Also, when we first interviewed Traditions, they told me that she was first on the in-house list for financial assistance. And now I feel like I was deceived. Since we've been there, they now say there are two people ahead of us, and I'm not sure why.

I visited this facility We visited Traditions of Dedham and we liked it. The caregivers were very personable. The people that live there seemed very happy. There were a lot of activities. The food looked really good, and they seemed to be happy with that. It was clean. They have like art classes, they have a small library, and they have like physical activity type classes, and I saw one of those. They have like little happy hours, and they have trips that they take them on with a van. They have bingo, game night, and movie nights. Every day, they have something. They have a schedule and a calendar with at least one thing every day. They gave us some cookies that the chef had made and those were pretty good.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about Traditions. My mom has been there a few years now and it’s the same wonderful staff. We recently moved my mom to another part of Traditions and Tish, Ashley and Bill helped with everything. Ashley was able to set up a FaceTime with my mom which meant the world to me to see mom happy with other residents making strawberry shortcake. They go above and beyond and really keep their residents busy and happy. Thank you so very much for all you do. (Here’s a pre-Covid pick of my mom when we visited)

My dance ensemble performed an hour dance concert for the community at Traditions of Dedham. The staff was very friendly and helpful setting up the space so that we could perform. Residence were well informed of the show and were assisted in finding seats. The residents themselves also enjoyed and appreciated the performance and we had a nice talk back at the end of the show with residents. It would be amazing if this great community could receive funding to create a larger theatrical performance space.

I offered Residents a few art classes at Traditions. It was Fun! We set up all the supplies beforehand and I found that there was a range of art-experienced people gathering there. It didn't matter if they had painted before, as we all now laughed and painted together. This time we made a pine tree landscape...I loved the memories painting evokes. One gentlemen told me he often paints using the strokes as a way to outline and model copying faces in old photos he has in his room. We talked further about ways he could do that. These Residents are very alert and want me to come back to see their work!

My Mom has been at Traditions of Dedham for the past three years and I can say that her quality and outlook of life has improved dramatically. Prior to her stay, her outlook on life was very dim. She was alone most of the day and had difficulty preparing adequate meals for herself due to age and physical restrictions. She was very depressed and would refuse to get involved in senior activities because she had to rely on family members for transportation and did not want to be a bother. She had lived in the house that our father built and we all grew up in for the past 63 years. Being a widow for 15 years seemed to start a downward spiral to her depression and outlook on life. She was always sad and constantly was living in the past wishing that she could have Dad back and would dwell on past family good times. Conversations with her would always revert back to Dad and other deceased family members. Through a friend, we learned of Traditions of Dedham and set up an appointment to bring her there for a tour thinking that she would see what assisted living was all about but she would never leave the family homestead for a new life even though it would improve her quality of life. We were given the tour and treated like VIP’s by the administration and staff. After sitting in the dining room, we asked her if she would like to try an assisted living way of life. We were shocked when she said she would. As a result of her becoming a resident at Traditions Of Dedham, she has become a new person. Her outlook on life has improved dramatically. She has become a much happier person. She has social interaction with other residents and staff. The staff is wonderful with having activities everyday to keep her entertained and gives her a purpose in her life. She especially enjoys Wi bowling and games that the staff comes up with. There is entertainment on a regular basis that comes from talented residents and also outside entertainment. When we take her from Transitions for family events, we’ve noticed that she is anxious to return to Transitions to socialize or dine with her friends. We never thought that that would ever happen. The dining room serves delicious and nutritious meals and does a great job on special occasions and holidays. The wait staff is very personable and learns the likes and dislikes of the residents to better serve them. She has her regular group of friends that she sits with in the dining room everyday. The administration of Traditions takes a personal interest in each and every resident and takes the initiative to get to know the family members on a first name basis. It really makes you feel that you are a part of the Traditions family. Recently Mom was hospitalized, and the Administration and Nursing staff met with hospital staff to plan and make her return to Transitions as seamless as possible. I can’t say enough good things about Traditions of Dedham. Everyone is so nice and it has given my Mom a far better quality of life. She’s happy, not lonely and looks forward to life instead of looking backwards and wishing she could change things past.

Traditions of Dedham is not just an assisted living facility... it is a HOME . My mom has felt at home there from the day she arrived. The decision to move to Traditions of Dedham was made in November, 2016. Though we did not visit other facilities , this warm, and nurturing atmosphere was felt as we walked through the door. Having grownup in Dedham, we knew Traditions of Dedham came highly recommended. Since my mom is legally blind, she is not able to do many things by herself. It didn’t take long for the staff and caregivers to embrace my mom and give her the assistance, when needed, to feel safe and comfortable while being able to maintain her independence with dignity. She loves each and every caregiver that comes into her apartment. And many feel as close as family to her. My mom is truly living life to the fullest now! She has made many new friends, participates in a multitude of activities, and enjoys deliciously prepared meals. Traditions of Dedham continues to strive for excellence with giving their residents a voice in how their community is run. Thank you to all at Traditions of Dedham. It pleases me to know that you all continue to do such a great job in making my mom feel so special. It is with no hesitation that I highly recommend Traditions of Dedham.

"Traditions" has been a wonderful fit for my father Russ (pictured with his son and grandson), who has been a resident for 2.5 years. It was difficult leaving his home of 35 years, but he wanted to stay geographically close to the town (Westwood) where he coached baseball and taught physical education. To be able to attend retired teacher luncheons and bump into former students has been important aid to his move to assisted living. Perhaps the greatest benefit for "Coach" has been the new friendships, daily activities, and the structure of this community. Having a daily routine has always been important to him, and with the onset of cognitive/memory issues, this structure has been even more important to making this place feel like home. Thank you Traditions!

I looked at many facilities before deciding on Traditions and I am so glad I did. My mom started in the assisted living area where she made friends, was fully engaged and very happy. With the help of the very caring staff, she was moved to the memory care unit, when living independently was no longer an option. She is well cared for and treated with compassion and respect. My mom is kept engaged and active and is given many various opportunities to spend her days. The facility is very homey, bright, well maintained and clean. We are very grateful knowing our mom is safe and well cared for.

My father has been a resident of Traditions of Dedham for the past five years. The transition to assisted living can be a difficult path, for both the resident and the entire family, especially when the move is sudden and unexpected. Fortunately for us, a caregiver recommended we do a short respite stay at Traditions to see how my father would do there. It has been an excellent match. If you are exploring this option for your loved ones, schedule a visit. You'll witness firsthand the kind, warm, professional yet engaged atmosphere that will help your loved one thrive...and give your family peace of mind.

Traditions of Dedham has been a wonderful home and environment for my mother on every level. She's been here over six years and the entire staff has accommodated any possible need. The front desk, marketing director, executive director, business office, nurses and aids, maintenance, activities director and dining room director have all exceeded our expectations! This truly is an assisted living that looks out for every single resident...checking in on my Mom and always aiming to please! The entertainment exceeds all expectations. The annual Christmas play is exceptional...our entire family loves to see Gary Poholek performing "A Christmas Carol" every year...it truly is such a special treat...and brings a big smile to all. The annual Luau is also a spectacular event...with a fine array of food and wonderful music; it's festive and fun for the residents and their entire families! My mom truly feels like she has a second family...we're all so thankful to each and every staff member that is a part of our mom's life...she's in the best of hands...we couldn't ask for a more kind or thoughtful family!

Where do I begin? The biggest struggle of my life was figuring out how/where to care for the person who gave me all of my values. I was lucky...my mom had this great friend/advocate through the years - Deb Greenwood...and I grew up with Deb's husband and his amazing family. I knew that she would not be affiliated with any fly-by-night organization. I transitioned my mom to Traditions almost 2 years ago and I can say that she has been loved and cared about every second of every day. Alzheimer's/Dementia is not easy to accept or handle...the kindest caregivers are those that I have come to know & adore over this time. Ashleigh, Laura, Mae, and EVERY aide (I apologize if I have missed any names) have given my mom the highest quality of life. There are always challenges at any memory care facility. Traditions has exceeded any expectations that I had and I would want nothing than the current care for my mom. We had a recent challenge yet the people at Traditions have done everything possible to allow my mom to go "HOME" and for that I am eternally grateful.
