Celebrating Freedom

June 16, 2023

With May as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, June as Pride Month, Juneteenth being nationally recognized as a federal holiday, and Independence Day just around the corner… we’re thinking about freedom. Freedom to be who we are, to believe what we believe, to love who we love, and to live our lives as our authentic selves. These freedoms are ones we don’t take lightly, and ones that we are proud to honor at LCB Senior Living.

To celebrate this beautiful convergence of acceptance, independence, and freedom, we’ve compiled some thoughtful and inspirational quotes from some prolific freedom fighters and ground-breakers.

“It takes no compromise to give people their rights…it takes no money to respect the individual. It takes no political deal to give people freedom. It takes no survey to remove repression.” — Harvey Milk

“Freedom is choosing your responsibility. It’s not having no responsibilities; it’s choosing the ones you want.” — Toni Morrison

“From the first moment a woman dared to speak that hope – dared to believe that the American Dream was meant for her too – ordinary women have taken on extraordinary odds to give their daughters the chance for something else; for a life more equal, more free, and filled with more opportunity than they ever had. In so many ways we have succeeded, but in so many areas we have much work left to do.” — President Barack Obama

“Power can be taken, but not given. The process of the taking is empowerment in itself.” — Gloria Steinem

“It’s important that we establish that we are a country that has open arms and not closed borders for people. It’s important because we let people know why America is what it is. It’s about an ideal, and that ideal is freedom for everybody.” — Oprah Winfrey

“We must be free not because we claim freedom, but because we practice it.” — William Faulkner

“Those who deny freedom to others, deserve it not for themselves.” – President Abraham Lincoln

We hope you’re as inspired by this as we are!
