How Assisted Living Differs From a
Nursing Home
Independent, Assisted and Memory Care living (“Personal Care” in PA) as provided by LCB Senior Living is a type of senior housing that came to the Northeast in the early 1990’s. It was a major departure from traditional nursing homes, in that it catered to a less-frail senior without acute medical needs, featured full, individual apartments, and was characterized by large, open community spaces more akin to a grand home than an institutional setting.
While nursing homes are licensed to provide seniors with high levels of care and can administer certain medical services, Assisted Living/Personal Care is licensed to provide non-medical assistance with the activities of daily living, such as assistance with dressing or bathing, medication reminders, and other help. As a result, Assisted Living tends to be a more active community of healthy individuals engaged in all aspects of life.
